Rockwall Entertainment Calendar April 24

(April 25) Rockwall County Sheriff’s Office Open House

The Rockwall County sheriff’s office invites the public to its open house from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., tomorrow. Families and children are invited to see the Sheriff’s Posee and horses, and visit the sheriff, command staff, sergeants and deputies, including those involved in the K-9 unit, crime prevention and investigations, as well as personnel in emergency management, warrant service, courthouse security, and jail operations. Hot dogs, snacks and cold drinks will be available. “We look forward to seeing you,” said Sheriff Harold Eavenson. The rain date is May 2. The office is located at 972 T.L. Townsend Dr.



(April 25) Aspasian’s Arts and Crafts Show

The Aspasian’s Arts and Crafts show will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. tomorrow in downtown Rockwall. The all-day event features home interiors, clothing, jewelry, floral arrangements, wooden items, food and special activities for children.



(April 25) Great Strides 5k walk

The Rockwall and Rowlett Great Strides walk for cystic fibrosis will be tomorrow at Harry Myers Park, 815 E. Washington St. in Rockwall. Check-in is at 8:30 a.m. A silent auction starts at 9 a.m.; the walk at 9:30 a.m. Breakfast foods and drinks will be served. Raffles, t-shirts and a kid’s corner are planned. (April 26) MusicFest

The Rockwall Philharmonic Orchestra will be performing a tribute concert for Raymond and Elizabeth Cameron at 4 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Rockwall. The program will feature music of all six nations that have at one time or another flown their flags over the state of Texas. Tickets for the event are $15 for adults, $10 for students.



(April 30) Rockwall County Business Expo

The 2009 Rockwall County Business Expo will be held from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Thursday, April 30 at Rockwall High School. The event, held in conjunction with the Rockwall Noon Rotary Club, allows Rockwall area businesses to showcase themselves to the community and features a food extravaganza from area restaurants. (May 2) Rockwall Farmers Market and Music

Friends of Downtown Rockwall will feature musical performance to open its second annual run of the Downtown Farmers Market on May 2. Vendors will be in place from 8 a.m. to noon, each Saturday through Sept. 26, with exceptions of Aspasians Art Fair and Founders Day.



(May 1-2) Rockwall County Relay for Life

Relay For Life, the signature fundraising event for the American Cancer Society, will be held from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. on May 1-2 at Cain Middle School in Heath. (May 7) County mayors to host prayer breakfast

The mayors of Rockwall County are inviting the public to join them in recognizing the annual National Day of Prayer on Thursday, May 7 with the third annual “Rockwall County Mayors Prayer Breakfast.”

Mayors Bill Cecil (Rockwall), John Harper (Rowlett), John Ratcliffe (Heath), Jim Mellody (Royse City), Michael Donegan (McLendon-Chisholm), and Bill Broderick (Fate) will host the non-denominational event at “The Center” at City Place (108 W. Washington Street - adjacent to Rockwall City Hall). Doors open at 7:30 a.m. for the 8 a.m. event that includes a free continental breakfast.

The guest speaker will be the Dwight Douglas (D.D.) Lewis, former football player for the Dallas Cowboys.



(May 7) Lakeland Denim and Diamonds

Lakeland Academy will be hosting its Denim and Diamonds fundraising gala at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 7 at the Hilton Bella Harbor. The event features dinner, dancing and a live as well as silent auction. The cost for the event is $50 per person or $90 per couple. For more information, call 972-636-3777.



(May 9) Union Valley opens City Hall

Open House at Union Valley City Hall will be a pot-luck affair from 1 to 3 p.m. May 9. Volunteers built the building which is located next to the Union Valley Fire Station on County Road 1565.



(May 9) Holistic Health Fair

Rockwall's third annual Holistic Health Fair will cover topics on the array of integrative medicine and holistic modalities readily available. It features various practitioners, vendors and presentations and about holistic health. (May 9) Rockwall Community Band’s Spring Concert

The Rockwall Community Band, under the direction of Mike McGill, will hold its Spring Concert at 7 p.m. May 9 at Rockwall High School. Admission is free. The band will perform “Anthem for Winds and Percussion,” “Rendezvous With the Other Side,” “Flight of the Bumble Bee” and “Flashpoint.”



(May 9) FCA 5k Fun Run at the Harbor

The Greater Dallas Fellowship of Christian Athletes will be hosting a 5k Fun Run, Dog Jog, and Kids K on May 9 at Eclipse Fitness (formerly Larry North Fitness) at the Harbor in Rockwall. Organizers are planning to have vendors and other peripheral activities along with the event. The 5k Fun Run begins at 8 a.m. The Dog Jog starts at 8:15 a.m. and the Kids K follows at 9 a.m. For more information, contact Jeff Jacobs at 214-837-3505.



(May 9) Radio control aircraft demo

The “Rockwall RC Sport Flyers” will be holding an open house and Fun Fly at 9 a.m. May 9, at the club field on Dowell Road, south of State Highway 276. Spectators are welcome to veiw radio control fun fly contests and demonstrations of radio control aircraft. The club will cook hot dogs and hamburgers.



(May 13) TAMU Club Golf Tournament

The 22nd Annual Rockwall County A&M; Club Golf Tournament will be held at 1 p.m. May 13 at Buffalo Creek Golf Club. Registration brochures will be mailed out to all Rockwall County Aggies and previous participants later this month, but interested parties can register online now. The club also needs hole sponsors. (May 16) Sheriff’s Posse Trail Ride

The Rockwall County Sheriff’s Posse will hold its 18th annual trail ride on Saturday, May 16. It begins with lunch at 11:30 a.m. with the ride following at 1 p.m. The trail ride will be held at Sabine Creek Ranch, which is a new location this year. The rain date for the event would be May 30. (May 16) Annual master gardners tour

Rockwall County Master Gardners tour of gardens will be held May 16 featuring four private gardens, two local business gardens and Rockwall County Discovery Garden. Tour addresses and a map will be on the tickets. This is an “at your leisure” tour, with gardens closing at 2 p.m. Tickets are on sale at American National Bank all Rockwall branches, Calloway’s in Mesquite, Covington’s in Rowlett, Culver’s Restaurant in Rockwall, Homesley’s in Forney, Land Art, Landscape Source and North Texas Waterscapes, all in Rockwall. Also, at Rockwall County Extension Office at 1350 East Washington Street in Rockwall Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. (closed 12-1 for lunch). For more information, call 972-204-7660.



(May 17) Cars for CASA set for The Harbor

The Metro East Division of the Home Builders Association’s 4th Annual Cars for CASA Car, Truck & Motorcycle Show will be held on Sunday, May 17, at The Harbor (Shoreline at Summer Lee), Rockwall. Registration will be from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The event is hosted by Rods & Relics and benefits Lone Star CASA, Court Appointed Advocates serving Rockwall and Kaufman Counties.
