Some funning among friends | MusicFest roasts Bailey and Grinnan
The MusicFest annual roast took place Saturday night at Occasions at Stone River in Royse City. This year’s willing victims were County Commissioners Dennis Bailey and Lorie Grinnan. The annual event raises funds for MusicFest, which promotes music in the local area through the Greater Rockwall Philharmonic orchestra. Above, Dennis Bailey inspects fictional campaign material developed by Dewayne Cain (in back) as Cain took his turn at roasting Bailey.

BEST grants awarded to new teachers
RISD students were scrambling back to classes this past week. Along with the new students were a whole new slate of first-year teachers. At the beginning of each school year, the Rockwall ISD Education Foundation, Inc. presents each new teacher — new to Rockwall and new to the teaching profession — with a grant of $200. The funds are to assist the teacher in offsetting the expenses of setting up a classroom.

The day my soaking turned to gushing
I got one of those dreaded telephone calls while away from home on a recent Saturday night.
The good news is that the call had nothing to do with car wrecks or emergency rooms.
But the news was bad enough. - ‘Don’t say I didn’t warn you’
- There’s an upcoming game I will never forget
- ‘It’s summertime, and the litigating is good’
