ROCKWALL COUNTY — The cities of Rockwall, Royse City and Fate are the only Rockwall County governmental entities with contested races in the May 8 local elections.
The ballots are not final, however.
There’s still time to file as a write-in candidate or for a candidate to withdraw.
Monday is the deadline for residents to file declarations for write-in candidacy for regular offices for cities and schools. And Tuesday is the last day for a candidate to withdraw.
So far, only Rockwall, Royse City and Fate have contested races.
In Rockwall, there’s a three-candidate race for the Place 2 city council seat now occupied by Mark Russo. Russo filed as a candidate for re-election. Challengers are Bill Bricker and Teddy Nugen.
Incumbent Margo Nielsen and David White are candidates for the Place 6 seat on the city council. Cliff Sevier of Place 4 is unopposed.
In Royse City, Brooks Williams and Jim McLeroy filed as candidates for the Place 4 seat on the city council. Incumbent Clay Ellis is unopposed for re-election to the Place 2 position and Tom Crowley is the only candidate to file for the Place 6 seat on the council.
Fate Mayor Bill Broderick is opposed in his re-election bid. Richard Johns also filed as a candidate for mayor.
On the city council, incumbents Steve Skipworth (Place 2), Sheri Garber (Place 4) and Tammy Ryan (Place 6) are unopposed.
Early voting will begin on April 26 and end on May 4. April 8 is the last day for residents to register to vote if they want to be eligible to cast ballots in the May 8 election.

Heath
All incumbents filed for re-election. They are Mayor John Ratcliffe and councilmembers Julie Zurek (Place 3) and Lorne Liechty (Place 5).
McLendon-Chisholm
In McLendon-Chisholm, Gary Moody filed as a candidate for mayor. He is currently the Place 5 city council member.
Two council members filed for re-election. They are Jack Pullen (Place 2) and Steve Hatfield (Place 4).
Rockwall ISD
Both incumbents filed for re-election to the Rockwall Independent School District’s Board of Trustees. They are Doug Hamilton (Place 4) and Dr. David Loftis (Place 5)
Royse City ISD
Mike Stone filed for re-election to the Place 6 position and Julie Stutts filed for re-election to the Place 7 spot on the Royse City Independent School District’s Board of Trustees.
