Circus making stop in Royse City

ROYSE CITY — The 2010 edition of the Kelly Miller Circus is preparing to make its annual stop in Royse City. The traveling performers will pull onto the circus grounds at 7:30 a.m. and begin the transformation into a full performance venue.

The circus elephants help raise the circus big top and free guided tours are given to let everyone take part in the setting up process. Royse City residents can observe the elephants as they play together in their “elephant pen” unchained.

The elephants aren’t the only animals in the circus family. There are horses, camels, llamas, ponies, and miniature Sicilian donkeys. They all perform for the circus, along with the acrobats and aerialists from around the world, in the two main big top circus performances.

As an added attraction, just like last year, there will be principals from the various RCISD campuses who will appear as guest elephant riders at each of the shows.

The Kelly Miller Circus will be in Royse City on Monday with performances at 4:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.

It will set up with the help of the elephants at 9 a.m. in front of Scott Elementary off the service road South of I-30 and Circle Drive.

Proceeds from the circus will benefit community activities sponsored by the Royse City Chamber of Commerce.
