Rockwall County —
The City of Fate will hold public hearings Monday and Sept. 7 on a proposal to increase property tax revenue by 13.2 percent.
Both public hearings will be held at the Fate Community Center, beginning at 7 p.m.
The proposal calls for the city’s tax rate to increase from 21.44 cents per $100 of taxable value to 24.69 cents.
The proposed rate would result in the owner of a residence with an average taxable value paying $54 more for the year.
With the proposed rate, the owner of a home with a taxable value of $174,862 — the average taxable value of a residence in Fate — would receive a tax bill of $431. By using the current tax rate, the owner of house with a taxable value of $176,252 — the average taxable value of residence the last tax year — would pay $377.
The effective tax rate — a calculated rate that would provide the city with the same amount of revenue it received in the year before on properties taxed in both years — is 21.69 cents per $100 of taxable value. With the effective tax rate, the tax bill on the average home would be $378.
The city has a proposed balanced budget of $2.6 million for operations.
The water and sewer fund would require some rate adjustments, however. The water budget is $1.7 million and the sewer budget is $1.1 million
The volume rate for water would decrease by 3 cents. The base fee, however, would increase by $1.
The average water customer who uses 5,500 gallons per month would see a monthly bill increase by 33 cents — from $35.80 to $36.13.
Sewer rates would increase from $1.96 to $2.40 per 1,000 gallons used. The base also would increase by $1.
The average monthly sewer bill would increase from $34.45 per 1,000 gallons used to $38.96

Portion of Quail Run road to be closed
The City's contractor will start drainage construction on May 29.
Quail Run Road, between John King Blvd and FM-1141, will be closed to through traffic beginning on Tuesday, May 29th. The road will be closed until mid-August. The contractor will have signage in place. -

Rockwall EDC brings Bimbo Bakeries to Technology Park
The Rockwall Economic Development Corporation has brought another great deal to Rockwall with Bimbo Bakeries USA, the largest bakery company in the USA. Bimbo will build a 300,000-square-foot bakery facility in the Rockwall Technology Park. The facility will be located between Discovery Boulevard, Data Drive and Springer Road in Phase II of the Rockwall Technology Park, located just south of Interstate 30 in Rockwall. The bakery is the largest new industrial build-to-suit project in the history of Rockwall.

City officials have taken a first step that could lead to branding Royse City.
That first step involved city council members listening to a presentation by Larry Lott, executive director of the Royse City Economic Development Corporation, during a May 8 city council meeting. -
Tornado cleanup could continue with ‘day of volunteering’
Organizers who still are involved in tornado relief efforts in the Royse City area soon may issue a plea for volunteers to help pick up debris that covers a large area.
