Hall makes positive remarks on earmark moratorium

WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Rep. Ralph Hall (R-Rockwall) said he applauded the decision by the entire House Republican Conference to support an immediate moratorium on earmarks. Earlier Hall joined other Ranking Republican Members of ten House committees in supporting the moratorium.

“The American people are tired of out-of-control government spending and borrowing,” Hall said. “An immediate ban on earmarks is an important step to getting spending under control, and I hope that our Democratic colleagues will join Republicans in this effort.”

“My constituents are very concerned about the escalating deficit and level of government spending, and they see earmarks as part of the problem,” Hall said.  “While there are worthy projects in every Member’s district, the earmark system has become out of control in recent years and needs to be reformed.”

The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) recently released data indicating that deficits and debt in the President’s budget for fiscal year 2011 are even worse than the administration projected. CBO reported that the budget pushes spending to a new record of $3.8 trillion next year, widens the deficit to a new record of $1.5 trillion in 2010 and raises taxes by $1.8 trillion through 2020.
