ROCKWALL —
In an uncharacteristically short city council meeting in Rockwall, the council decided to table two items on the consent agenda and approve two action items.
Coming out of executive session, the council approved an application process for the soon-to-be-vacated position left by council member Mark Russo. The replacement process begins with an application already used for openings in boards and commissions on the city’s website. The deadline to apply is Aug. 31, at 5 p.m. From there the council will interview applicants before their final decision.
One of the tabled items from the consent agenda was clarification on the city’s sign ordinance. The ordinance, which comes up quite frequently in city council meetings, was amended to allow non-profit organizations to put out signs off-premise if they are made of coroplast. However, the city failed to amend the on-premise wording for the use of the new material.
“The discussion was that we did not want to have to have the banners,” council member David White said. “The coroplast was the compromise and it didn’t matter if it was on premise or off premise because the previous ordinance banned everything.”
The council then unanimously approved rates for Rockwall organizations to rent the city’s portable restroom trailer and the portable stage. Though there was some discussion on charging additional rates for organizations outside of the city to rent these items, the council decided to reserve them for Rockwall.
Next, the council looked at additional road projects to take to the Rockwall County Planning Consortium and decided on 205 south and FM 3097.
“As we head into the consortium on Wednesday evening from a priority standpoint,” Mayor David Sweet said, “we need to be in a position to remind them that there were some projects mentioned that have not been addressed and that we stay on track in the respect of accomplishing those.”
