Deadline draws near for city and school elections

ROCKWALL —

The filing deadline for city council and school board elections is drawing near and only one race in Rockwall County is contested.

Bill Bricker filed recently as a candidate for the Place 2 seat on the Rockwall City Council. Incumbent Mark Russo also has filed.

As of mid-afternoon Wednesday, all other candidates for school trustee, city council and mayoral positions were unopposed. And in some cases, no candidates have filed.

Filing will continue until March 8. The city and school board elections are scheduled for May 8. Early voting will begin on April 26 and end on May 4.

April 8 is the last day for residents to register to vote if they want to be eligible to cast ballots in the May 8 election.

Following is a list of candidates who had filed for office as of mid-afternoon Wednesday.



Fate

In Fate, Mayor Bill Broderick and councilmembers Steve Skipworth (Place 2), Sheri Garber (Place 4) and Tammy Ryan (Place 6) have filed for re-election.

To file in person, visit Fate City Hall at 105 E. Fate Main Pl.



Heath


 All incumbents have filed for re-election. They are Mayor John Ratcliffe, and councilmembers Julie Zurek (Place 3) and Lorne Liechty (Place 5).

 Information about filing for mayor or one of the city council positions is available at City Hall, 200 Laurence Drive. Office hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.



McLendon-Chisholm

In McLendon-Chisholm, Gary Moody has filed as a candidate for mayor. He is currently the Place 5 city council member. A city spokesman said Moody would not have to vacate his city council position while campaigning for mayor.

Mike Donegan is currently mayor.

Steve Hatfield has filed for re-election to the Place 4 seat on the city council. No candidate has filed for the Place 2 seat now occupied by Jack Pullen.



Rockwall

All three incumbents on the Rockwall City Council have filed for re-election.

Only one incumbent has a challenger so far. Incumbent Mark Russo and Bill Bricker have filed for the Place 2 seat on the city council

 Cliff Sevier (Place 4) and Margo Nielsen (Place 6) were unopposed as of mid-afternoon Wednesday.

Rockwall ISD

 Both incumbents have filed for re-election to the Rockwall Independent School District’s Board of Trustees. They are Doug Hamilton (Place 4) and Dr. David Loftis (Place 5).

Anyone interested in more information about the school board election should call 972-771-0605. Anyone wanting to apply for a place should pick up a packet at the Administration/Education Center at 1050 Williams St.



Royse City

In Royse City, there’s a candidate for each expiring position on the council.

Incumbent Clay Ellis has filed for the Place 2 seat on the council. Brooks Williams has filed as a candidate for the Place 4 seat and Tom Crowley has filed for the Place 6 position.

Council members with expiring terms are Ellis, Gary Gregory (Place 4) and Russell Summers (Place 6).

Applicants should come to City Hall at 305 N. Arch St. Office hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.



Royse City ISD


Julie Stutts has filed for re-election to the Place 7 seat on the Royse City Independent School District’s Board of Trustees. She is the only candidate who has filed.

The only other candidate with an expiring term is Mike Stone of Place 6.
