ROCKWALL COUNTY — The City of Rockwall started 2010 by reporting big gains in sales tax rebate revenue for the month and for the year so far, while other cities in the county recorded mixed results, according to a report released Wednesday by the Texas Comptroller’s office.
The figures reflect the portion of sales taxes collected at Rockwall County businesses in January, which were reported to the comptroller’s office in February.
Sales taxes are one of the two main sources of revenue, along with property taxes, which feed a city's general fund.
The City of Rockwall reported receiving $950,170.06 in sales tax rebate revenue this month, representing an increase of 5.4 percent from the $901,449.27 received in March 2009. So far this fiscal year, Rockwall has taken in $3,636,666.07 in sales tax rebate revenue, an increase of 3.87 percent from the $3,500,978.33 collected through the same point one year ago.
Royse City received $78,646.19 in sales tax rebate revenue this month, representing an increase of 2.53 percent from the $76,699.44 in sales tax rebate revenue collected in March of last year. During the fiscal year so far, Royse City had received $252,705.70, which is 8.77 percent less than the $277,027.44 the city had accumulated through March 2009.
Fate received $19,896.83 from the Comptroller’s Office, an increase of 36.01 percent from the $14,628,49 in sales tax rebate revenue it took in during March 2009. So far this fiscal year, Fate has taken in $58,952.27, down 2.5 percent from the $60,468.37, it had received through the same point last year.
Heath received $42,783.61, representing a 12.57 percent decrease in sales tax rebate revenue from the $48,936.61 it received 12 months ago. So far this fiscal year, Heath has collected $179,169.33, up 2.51 percent from the $174,775.95 the city had received through March 2009.
McLendon-Chisholm received $811.07 in sales tax rebate revenue this month, representing an increase of 76.28 percent from the $460.09 the city collected during March of last year. McLendon-Chisholm has received $2,061.98 so far this year, down 3.26 percent from the $2,131.60 in sales tax revenue accumulated through the same point 12 months ago.
Mobile City received a sales tax rebate payment of $4,563.41 this month, representing a dip of 6.09 percent from the $4,859.66 received in March 2009. Through this month, Mobile City has claimed $19,440.25 in sales tax revenue, a decline of 2.64 percent from the $19,968.30 collected through the same point in 2009.
