Home school resource center opening new campus in Rockwall

CNHI

Rockwall County — School is out for the summer, but a program called Classical Conversations (CC) is gearing up for the 2010-11 school year. A North Carolina-based home school organization, CC serves the Dallas Metroplex, including a new campus in Rockwall which will meet at Trinity Harbor Church at 306 E. Rusk.

Classical Conversations will introduce to the Rockwall county homeschool community the Foundations and Essentials programs this year.

In Foundations, a trained tutor introduces the memory work and leads the classroom time. The memory work is divided into six subjects: timeline/history, geography, math, science, Latin, and English grammar. In addition to the memory work, students also take part in a fine arts project/lesson, a science project, and have an opportunity to practice oral presentation skills each week. The Foundations Program is geared toward students from pre-kindergarten to sixth grade. Families meet weekly to go over new memory work (grammar), using Classical Conversations’ Foundations Guide.

The Essentials Program is appropriate for students in third through sixth grade. This course meets after Foundations and is designed to strengthen English grammar, writing skills and arithmetic mastery.

Mary Weible, Director of CC Rockwall, said, “Many parents feel insufficiently prepared to teach grammar and writing.  With the Essentials Program our tutors model the teaching of grammar and writing for the parents, giving them the confidence to continue the instruction at home.” Both Foundations and Essentials parents and students meet on Wednesdays for 24 weeks during the school year.

If parents are interested in registering their students or would like to attend a free informational meeting, they may contact Mary Weible at 214-564-4845.
