ROCKWALL —
The Rockwall County Commissioners met Tuesday morning in a workshop session to discuss a new road bond issuance, the roof at the Adult Probation Building, and the two new districts that were established in the county by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) without county input.
The court also discussed the three bids the court received for the maintenance and service of county vehicles for the upcoming fiscal year. Rockwall County Sheriff Harold Eavenson spoke highly the current company servicing county vehicles, Goodyear, but did not have anything negative to say about the other two companies.
According to Assistant District Attorney Jon Thatcher, the county is exempt from a state statute that requires the county bid projects that cost more than $50,000, but the county does traditionally put the contract out for bids. The county could decide not to award a bid, which would allow county vehicles to be serviced by any company, but a contract would lock in prices for maintenance.
The county discussed their road improvement plan with consultants from First Southwest and will discuss a new bond insuance at Tuesday’s meeting.
McLendon-Chisholm City Manager Dave Butler talked about the two new districts established by the TECQ. According to Butler, McLendon-Chisholm and the county have an interlocal agreement that ensures unified subdivision provisions will be enforced on the future housing development.
There are currently numerous questions surrounding the development, such as a lack of adequate sewer and water lines in the area.
According to a report by an independent roofing company, the leaking at the Adult Probation Building is a result of inadequate sealing around windows on the roof. The company, CEI, has submitted a bid of $4,000 to waterproof the walls around the windows, a process they say will take approximately two days. The item will be discussed in next week’s court.
“We need to to take care of this issue,” Precinct 2 Commissioner Lorie Grinnan said.
The court also discussed an agreement beetween Rockwall County and the Children’s Center of Collin County for the provision of child forensic interview services.
