Pet care facility planned for Heath
Action by the Heath City Council has cleared the way for the construction of a 17,000-square-foot pet care facility.
The city council approved an ordinance Tuesday night that established a planned development zoning district in the Cobblestone Farms Phase 2 addition, on the northwest corner of Horizon Road and Hope Drive.
The developer will be Whittle Development.
Rob Whittle, president of Whittle Development, told council members the new building for Elite Suites Pet Facility will add $2 million to the city’s tax base. He told council members this will be the second Elite Suites Pet Facility. Owners also have a facility in Southlake.
According to information provided at the meeting, the building will have a 92-suite capacity. The facility will offer grooming, veterinary care, indoor pet boarding, pet exercise in a fenced and screened area and retail sales.
Information provided by Mershawn Architects listed some of the features that will be offered at the facility.
Those features include:
• Designer suites for each dog, with custom-built wrought iron gates, colorful artwork, televisions and wrought-iron beds with orthopedic mattress and fresh linens in every suite.
• Specialized hotel design incorporating stress reduction walls to ensure the privacy of each guest.
• Personalized outdoor times five or six times a day in a 14,000-square-foot exercise area.
• Webcams in every suite to allow owners to view their pet at any time.
• Screening of each guest for medical and behavioral issues.
• Retail boutique, complete with bakery and designer merchandise.
• Special events such as movie nights and parties.
Before considering the planned development ordinance, council members approved the replat of five lots at the site of the pet facility. The replat reduced the number of lots from five to three.
