It’s almost time to fire up the grills again for the Downtown Rockwall 2nd Annual Rib Rub & Run on Sept. 11.
Local chefs will showcase their grilling expertise at the barbeque contest that is open to all – amateur or professional. Contest registration and information are available online at mainstreet.rockwall.com. According to organizers, teams are already signing up for the event.
Rib Rub is sanctioned by the International Barbecue Cookers Association.
There will be cash prizes for first, second and third place.
The event starts at 9 a.m. and goes until 6 p.m. A disc jockey will provide music all day and live music will be provided by Mr. X beginning at 11:30 a.m. and the Justin Cash Band at 1:30 p.m.
This is also an opportunity to get a taste of downtown restaurants: AVA, Zanata, TR Café, El Cayote Rojo, The Candy Jar Malt Shop and also Arboleda’s from The Harbor. Zanata is also hosting a beer garden.
Activities for the kids include a bounce house, face painting, games and storytelling.
There will also be an all-day Poker Stroll and put together the best poker hand to win a gift basket loaded with great prizes from downtown merchants - just visit the unique shops to get cards.
For those feeling really energetic, they can come early and join the 5K Fun Run hosted by the Rockwall Running Center at 8 a.m. Information on the fun run and registration form are available at www.rockwallrunningcenter.com.
The San Jacinto Street Art Market and Farmers Market will be open for business as usual.
