Rockwall County —
Jobs are being created in Rockwall County and the local unemployment rate dipped slightly between June and July.
The county added more than 200 jobs month-to-month and has created more than 700 jobs during the past year, according to a report issued by the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC).
Rockwall County reported a 7.5 percent unemployment rate during July, compared to 7.7 percent in June and also in July 2009.
There were 36,614 people reported as employed last month, a gain of 234 positions from June and an increase of 737 jobs when compared to July one year ago.
There were 2,977 people listed as unemployed in Rockwall County during July, 144 fewer than in June, and 19 fewer than in July of last year. The county’s civilian labor force added 1,078 people during the past 12 months.
Rockwall County is listed by the Texas Workforce Commission as part of the Dallas-Plano-Irving Metropolitan Division, which also includes Dallas, Collin, Delta, Denton, Ellis, Hunt and Kaufman counties. Rockwall County had the division’s lowest unemployment rate in July.
Kaufman County recorded the area’s highest unemployment rate last month, at 9.4 percent. Dallas and Hunt Counties both listed with 9 percent unemployment, Ellis County reported 8.7 percent unemployment and Delta County posted 8.8 percent unemployment during July. Denton County posted 7.7 percent unemployment and Collin County listed 7.8 percent unemployment during July.

Portion of Quail Run road to be closed
The City's contractor will start drainage construction on May 29.
Quail Run Road, between John King Blvd and FM-1141, will be closed to through traffic beginning on Tuesday, May 29th. The road will be closed until mid-August. The contractor will have signage in place. -

Rockwall EDC brings Bimbo Bakeries to Technology Park
The Rockwall Economic Development Corporation has brought another great deal to Rockwall with Bimbo Bakeries USA, the largest bakery company in the USA. Bimbo will build a 300,000-square-foot bakery facility in the Rockwall Technology Park. The facility will be located between Discovery Boulevard, Data Drive and Springer Road in Phase II of the Rockwall Technology Park, located just south of Interstate 30 in Rockwall. The bakery is the largest new industrial build-to-suit project in the history of Rockwall.

City officials have taken a first step that could lead to branding Royse City.
That first step involved city council members listening to a presentation by Larry Lott, executive director of the Royse City Economic Development Corporation, during a May 8 city council meeting. -
