Mildred Townley



SACHSE — Mildred Opal Bell Townley, loving mother of Carol Joan Jones of Sachse and Kathryn Lee Nolan of Heath, was born Oct. 2, 1914, in Crowley, La., and died March 24, 2009, in Wylie.

A longtime resident of Houston, Opal enjoyed a 40-year career as financial aid officer at the University of Houston before retiring and moving to Sachse in 2002.

In addition to her daughters, she is survived by her sons-in-law, Robert Glenn Jones and Brooks Robert Nolan; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a brother, Rhule L. Bell of Sedona, Ariz.; a sister, Pauline Elizabeth Walters of Vidor; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Wilfred Rhule Bell and Rachel Pauline Tubbs Bell, and by her husband, Percy Lee Townley.

Opal’s life celebration was held at 11 a.m., March 28, at First United Methodist Church of Sachse where she was a member, with Dr. Anna Hosemann-Butler and Rev. Scott Holcomb-McClain officiating. Opal was laid to rest beside her beloved husband at Woodlawn Cemetery in Crowley, La.

Charles W. Smith & Sons Funeral Home in Sachse was in charge of arrangements.

The family requests donations be made to the Building Fund of either First United Methodist Church of Sachse (1520 Blackburn Road, Sachse, Texas, 75048) or First United Methodist Church of Heath (140 Smirl Drive, Heath, Texas 75032).

    She was born Feb. 4, 1928, in Corbin, Ky.  Jean had worked as a PBX operator for Neiman-Marcus.  She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren.
