ROCKWALL —
Robert “Bob” Kenyon Bevan passed away peacefully April 19, 2010, surrounded by his loving wife, Marilyn and four children, Kenyon, Angie, Jack, and Becki.
He was born Jan. 4, 1937, in Detroit, Mich., to Kenyon and Vera Bevan. Bob graduated from Michigan State University with a B.A. in accounting. While in Oklahoma City, Okla., pursuing what became a lengthy and successful career in computer software marketing, he met and married the love of his life, Marilyn Lamirand Marsh.
In 1971 Bob moved his family to Rockwall. In 1979, with Marilyn by his side, he started the first of his own software companies, DDS, and became No. 1 in portable communication software. Bob’s high energy and positive attitude served him well in this innovative field for many years. In 1996, they formed SofTechnics, Inc., which he ran until he retired in 2003.
Bob and his family started Bevan’s Arabians in the early 1980s to continue his father’s legacy. For more than 20 years he participated in the Arabian horse business, breeding, showing and selling horses.
Living near the lake allowed Bob and his family to race their sailboat on weekends. Once retired, he and Marilyn continued their boating hobby. They spent part of each year on their boat traveling between Annapolis, Md., and Palm Beach, Fla.
Devotion to his family came second only to Bob’s devotion to God. He was happiest sitting in church alongside his entire family and proudest watching each of his five grandchildren become baptized. Bob was an active member of Holy Trinity by the Lake Episcopal Church for more than 35 years. He and Marilyn especially enjoyed attending Saturday night services together. Bob was passionate about his commitment to the Austin Street Centre and volunteered regularly.
Throughout his life, Bob trusted God to guide his journey, never questioning or doubting. There is comfort in knowing his journey led him into God’s loving embrace.
Bob is survived by his wife of Heath; daughters Kenyon Bevan Hill of Rockwall, Angela Marsh Butler and husband Zane of Allen and Becki Bevan Farquharson and husband Tom of Rockwall; a son, Jack B. Marsh and wife Elizabeth of Rockwall; sister Patty Bevan Durr of Bellview, Wash.; and grandchildren Justin Michael Hill, Jacob Hale Marsh, Ryan Thomas Farquharson, Hannah Leigh Butler and Reagan Bevan Farquharson.
His parents preceded him in death.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., April 24, at Holy Trinity by the Lake Episcopal Church, 1524 Smirl, Heath, with Rev. Peter R. Getz officiating. Interment followed in Rest Haven Memorial Park.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Austin Street Centre, PO Box 710729, Dallas, Texas 75226 or to the church.
Rest Haven Funeral Home-Rockwall Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
