Jack Lofland

Jack Elmer Lofland was born Aug. 18, 1925, in Toledo, Ohio, to parents Elmer Niles and Fannie Ester (Yutzy) Lofland. He passed away on Dec. 21, 2009, in Rockwall, Texas at the age of 84.

His family moved to Dayton, Ohio. He attended Kiser High School, graduating in 1943, and University of Dayton 3/4 year in 1943. He entered Navy V-12 Program and was stationed at Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, Ohio, for 18 months. In 1944 he entered officer training school and was commissioned as ensign and was shipped through the Philippines to Japan to catch M4 Ship LCFF786 (Landing Craft Flotilla Flag). Subsequently he was transferred to LCS-92 (Landing Craft Support) for return trip to USA. He brought the ship back through Hi Wall – San Francisco to Portland where it was decommissioned. He was discharged from the Navy in 1947 as lieutenant junior grade. Mr. Lofland attended General Motors Institute (co-oping through Delco Products), graduating in 1950 with a degree in mechanical engineering. He was associated with Denton and Anderson Co. and Taylor Winfield Co. in the resistance welding industry throughout the country from 1953-1983, before forming his own company, Spotwelding Consultants, Inc.

In his later years Jack enjoyed collecting and selling Bosson’s heads and other sculptures that lead to an impressive collection, many friendships and a great source of fun for himself and his wife, Beverly.

Jack possessed a dry and sardonic wit, and you never knew when he might come out with it.

In spite of having a seemingly hard exterior, Jack had a heart of gold that expressed itself in his love for Beverly and the many, many times he sacrificed for his children.

The world is a smaller place and certainly less fun without Jack Lofland in it.

He was preceded in death by Beverly Lois Lofland, his beloved wife of 40 years.

Jack is survived by his children, Gary Lofland, Sherri Lofland, Gail Morris and husband Don of Rockwall, Mark Collins of Rowlett, Tina Miller and husband Bobby of Rockwall, and John Collins and wife Sharrie of Rowlett; 13 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

A memorial service was held at 3 p.m. Dec. 28, 2009, at Rest Haven Funeral Home – Rockwall Chapel with Dr. Aubrey Patterson officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to the SPCA of Texas, 362 S. Industrial Blvd, Dallas, Texas 75207.
