Soccer Hawks post two district wins in past week

ROCKWALL — Heath's soccer Hawks won two games over the last week, including a heads-up 1-0 battle against Rockwall on Friday at Wilkerson-Sanders Stadium.

The Hawks defeated the Jackets on a goal by Chase Minter in the third minute in the first game of a double-header at WSS matching RISD teams.

Heath outshot Rockwall 13-5 in the first half after taking the early lead.

RHS came out more aggressive in the second period, outshooting the Hawks 9-6, but could never find net as RHHS carried the 1-0 lead to the final buzzer.

Heath then knocked off The Colony 2-1 on Monday to improve to 4-3-0 in the district standings behind Richardson Pearce (5-0-2) and Lovejoy (3-1-3). Minter and Trevor Pinkston scored goals to lead the Hawks to the win.

Rockwall fell to Highland Park 4-0 on Monday to drop to 2-4-1 in 21-4A play.

The Rockwall girls defeated Heath 3-1 on Friday in the second half of the RISD double-header and controlled the action for much of the game, despite the Lady Hawks early 1-0 lead.

Brittney Buchanan ripped a goal in the15th minute to give RHHS the early advantage. Rockwall answered in the 24th minute with a goal from Shelby Soldat to tie the score.

The Lady Jackets then took a 2-1 lead with 8:15 before halftime when Kayla Smith scored off an assist from sister Kendall Smith.

Rockwall closed out the scoring in the 61st minute on a Jessie Givens goal off a penalty kick.

The RHS girls outshot Heath 18-9 en route to the victory.

The Lady Jackets then lost to Highland Park 3-1 on Monday to drop to 2-3-2 in District 21-4A behind leaders Highland Park (6-1-0), Pearce (6-1-0) and The Colony (2-2-1).

The Lady Hawks were scheduled to face The Colony on Monday, but no results were available at press time.
