HCA goes 2-1 at Parish Episcopal Tournament

HEATH — The Heritage Christian Academy softball team chalked up two wins and one loss at the Parish Episcopal School Invitational Tournament last weekend against a Class 3A-dominated field.

  HCA (Class 2A) kicked off with a 4-1 victory over Austin School for the Deaf (3A). The Lady Eagles took a 3-0 lead in the top of the second inning and never trailed. Freshmen Erika Mendoza and Priscilla Anderton drove in one run each and Mendoza stole home to spark the big inning.

  Heritage then lost a 13-2 outing against Arlington Oaktree (3A) after committing 12 errors. The ladies gave up three runs in the first inning, four in the second, five in the third and one in the fourth. Anderton drove in Rachel McMillan for one of the HCA runs and Amber Points scored the second off an errant throw to first by Oaktree.

  Heritage closed out the tournament with a 9-4 win over Episcopal School of Dallas (3A). After trailing 1-0 in the first inning, HCA put up four runs in the second, outscored ESD 2-1 in the third and 3-0 in the fourth before giving up two runs in the final inning for the 9-4 win.

  Pitcher Jordan Miller faced 65 batters at the tourney, giving up 17 hits and 10 walks for 18 runs. She threw 89 balls, 82 strikes and struck out 11.

  Anderton led the offense for HCA with 3 singles, 3 RBIs and 2 runs on 3-for-6 at the plate, Birgitte Obenchain went 1-for-2 with 1 single, 1 walk, 1 run and 1 RBI, Mendoza was 1-for-4 with 1 triple, 4 walks and 3 runs scored, Lauren Pettit posted 2 singles and 1 run and Megan Trapane booked 1 single, 3 walks and 2 runs.
