Enter game with Naaman win and 353 yards by QB Schultz

Going for two straight

HEATH — Rockwall-Heath’s Hawks will attempt to make it two straight 2012 wins when they take on South Garland tonight at Homer B. Johnson Stadium in Garland.

The matchup will pit undefeated Heath against unbeaten South following Zero Week action last week.

South is coming off a dominating victory against Richardson Berkner in its opener. The Colonels spotted Berkner a 14-0 lead on a 19-yard fumble return and a 12-yard TD pass before scoring 28 unanswered points.

RB Marquel McNac rushed for 187 yards and two TDs on 21 carries and QB Trey Porter put up 74 yards on 4-of-6 passing to spark the offense.

The South defense did the rest, holding Berkner to 27 yards through the air and minus four yards rushing.

The Hawks enter the game after knocking off Naaman Forest 37-28 in the first game of the Heritage Honor Before Victory Classic at Wilkerson-Sanders Stadium last Thursday.

Heath QB Chase Schultz sparked the win with a 353-yard performance and four touchdowns. He completed 23-of-34 passes for 252 yards and two TDs and ran for 101 yards and two TDs on 12 carries.

RHHS scored on its first two possessions (a four-yard run by Rico Henderson and a 31-yard TD pass from Schultz-to-R.J. Williams) to take an early 14-0 lead. But, Naaman then scored on a 74-yard TD pass, a 60-yard TD pass and a 25-yard field goal to carry a 16-14 advantage into halftime.

The Hawks came out of intermission with Schultz hitting his first nine passes with one TD and adding two more scores on the ground to give Heath the 37-28 victory. Tyler Pinkston closed out the scoring with a 34-yard field goal.

RHHS had 10 different receivers catch passes, led by Williams with 80 yards on six receptions, Shyon Motlagh with 82 yards on five catches and Henderson with 25 yards on five catches.

Henderson finished with 112 yards rushing and one TD on 12 carries to lead all rushers, Schultz added 101 yards and two TDs on 12 carries and Jeremy Armstrong tacked on 45 yards on eight carries.

Defensively, Kyle Loeffler recovered a fumble, Parker Wood picked off an interception, Jay Arnold blocked two PATs, Jordan Points had a couple of sacks and Raaquan Davis had 11 tackles, three assists and knocked down a pass.
