JFS tourney sees record participation
The 9th Annual JFS Outdoor Volleyball Tournament drew a record 50 teams in four different divisions to the Oasis Beach and Tennis Club last weekend and ran as scheduled despite an area forecast for rain.

Jackets earn big wins during summer league competition
Rockwall’s 7-on-7 Jackets racked up two big wins to kick off league play at Wylie Stadium on Tuesday.
Rockwall is scheduled for three weeks of league play against Wylie, South Garland and Jesuit, with Wylie hosting the first two weeks and Rockwall the final week. -
Coleman picked by Yankees during first-year player draft
Rockwall centerfielder Kendall Coleman was the area’s only high school draftee in the 2013 Major League Baseball First-Year Player draft at Secaucus, N.J., last Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

The sixth inning in Game 1 and the third inning in Game 3 cost Rockwall’s Yellowjackets the Class 5A Region II title and a berth in the state championships last weekend at Disch-Falk Field in Austin.

RISD-sanctioned sports camps have been set for the summer, with several beginning on June 10 and others lined up throughout July and into August.

Rockwall takes top honors on all-district soccer teams
The Rockwall girls soccer team placed six players and Coach of the Year Melissa Garcia and the boys team put eight players and Coach of the Year Troy Williams on the District 12-5A team after racking up district titles in both divisions.

Brewer returns to Rockwall, takes post as head coach
Kasie Brewer, a former Rockwall assistant girls basketball coach and Mesquite Horn head coach, was named the new RHS head girls basketball coach last week.
