Runners take on Lake Highlands Invitational

Collins, Fletcher lead RISD girls teams

DALLAS — The Rockwall and Rockwall-Heath girls cross country teams finished third and fifth respectively and the Rockwall boys captured fifth-place honors at the Lake Highlands Invitational at Norbuck Park last Saturday.

Rockwall’s girls team of Maiya Collins, Emily Drewery, Angie Boyd, Amanda Thorton, Hannah Edwards, Bailey Hines and Hayley Baker chalked up 81 points to finish third in the Class 4A/5A division.

Collins led the way with her second-place overall, first-place adjusted, finish (20:33), Drewery finished ninth overall, seventh adjusted (22:00), Boyd came in 20th (23:20), Thorton 24th (23:34), Edwards 29th (24:00), Hines 35th (24:29) and Baker 40th (25:00).

Heath’s girls, still without standout Paige Parent, put up 126 points for fifth place in the team standings.

Emily Fletcher finished in sixth place overall, fourth adjusted (20:44), Lindsey Archuleta came in 18th (22:56), Mykala Williams claimed 31st place (24:15), Ryann Jones finished 36th (24:31), Callie Crawford 37th (24:38) and Nina Jaimes 39th (24:55).

North Mesquite won the girls 4A/5A title with 65 points, Richardson finished second with 74 points and Rockwall third with 81 points.

Highland Park’s boys ran away with the 4A/5A boys championship after placing all five runners in the Top-10 (first, second, third, fourth and eighth).

Rockwall’s team of Justin Tokuz, Robbie Harmon, Gaines Kinsey, Spencer McKee, Colt Ramsey, Arturo Almazan and Sam Fox captured fifth place with 162 points.

Tokuz posted the Jackets only Top-10 finish with his 16:49 for fifth place, Harmon came in 17th (17:20), Kinsey 32nd (17:53), McKee 40th (18:10), Ramsey 68th (19:00), Almazan 81st (19:20) and Fox 84th (19:37).

Heath’s Austin James ran 18:51 (64th), German Zaldivar 18:58 (66th), Keith Monserate 19:43 (85th), Nick Killian 21:39 (123rd), Austin Recker 22:01 (127th) and Sam Selle 22:01 (128th) to lead the Hawks to 465 points and 17th place.

In the girls 3A-and-Under class, Ursuline Academy finished first (19), Bishop Lynch second (54) and Prince of Peace third (65). Ovilla Christian won the boys division with 51 points, Cistercian finished second (67) and Prince of Peace third (90).

Rockwall came in fourth in the JV girls division behind Ursuline, Molina and Bishop Lynch. Sarah Rippy finished 14th to lead the RHS girls.

The Jackets also finished in fourth place in the JV boys class behind Highland Park, Poteet and Adamson. Michael Lawrence finished 21st, Wyatt Wilson 22nd, Anthony Ray 25th and Tanner Hauerwas 26th for Rockwall.

Heath’s JV boys put up 403 points for 14th place in the JV boys division.
