Ralph Hall Cup on the line tonight at Wilkerson-Sanders

Jackets, Hawks featured in annual I-30 Classic

ROCKWALL — Rockwall’s Yellowjackets will try to knock off favored Heath and return the Ralph Hall Cup to RHS tonight when the crosstown rivals hit the gridiron at Wilkerson-Sanders Stadium in the annual I-30 Classic.

Heath won last year’s Classic 21-13 after taking advantage of six Jacket turnovers.

Rockwall defeated the Hawks in 2010 in a 52-51 thriller. QB Alan Reed and WR Blake Turner combined for 365 yards and three TDs in the come-from-behind win.

Reed also rushed for 153 yards and four touchdowns.

The two RISD teams put up just under 1,200 total yards in the shootout.

Rockwall is coming off a disappointing 44-7 loss to McKinney Boyd at Ron Poe Stadium last week.

The Jackets gave up an interception and three fumbles that led to 24 first-quarter points for the Broncos.

Boyd carried the momentum into a 38-0 halftime lead and tacked on six more second-half points for the big non-district win.

Despite racking up 205 yards rushing and 98 yards passing, Rockwall only scored one TD on a 74-yard scamper by RB Zach Berryman with 7:42 left in the fourth period.

The Jackets had drives stopped by an interception that led to a TD, a fumble that led to a field goal, a fumble returned for a touchdown, a punt returned for a TD and a fumble recovered at the six-yard line that led to a touchdown.

RHS, without the mistakes, could easily have made this a close football game.

Boyd’s spectacular all-state RB Bryan Driskell did burn the Jackets for 221 yards on 13 carries with TD runs of 72 and 33 yards and returned a punt 62 yards for a score.

Berryman led the Rockwall offense with 175 yards and one touchdown on 15 carries. He also had two receptions for 25 yards, Zavier Castille caught seven passes for 64 yards and Jay Galloway hauled in one for nine yards.

QB Dylan Campman ended the night seven-of-15 passing for 48 yards and QB Danny Garrett finished three-of-five passing for 50 yards.

Leading the RHS defense were Chris Hinckley with 31 tackles, three assists, two QB pressures and one fumble recovery, Josh Rippy with 20 tackles, 12 assists, 4.5 tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks, two QB pressures and one pass broken up, Jared Farrow with 17 tackles, 16 assists, 1.5 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, one QB pressure and one forced fumble, and Nehemiah Solis with 16 tackles, 11 assists, one sack, one tackle for loss and two passes broken up.

Hinckley earned Defensive Player of the Game honors and Berryman was named Offensive Player of the Game.
