GARLAND —
Track and field athletes from Lakepointe Track Club and the Rockwall Mustangs Track Club will compete in a combined 22 individual events and four relays at the TAAF State Meet after qualifying performances at the Region 7 Championships at Garland’s Williams Stadium last week.
The top-6 finishers in each event from Region 7, which is the largest region in the state, earned berths to the state competition at Baylor University’s Hart-Patterson Track Complex in Waco on August 5th-August 8th.
Leading Lakepointe at the regional meet was Tyler Zivney, who captured gold medals in the 12U 800 (2:24.93) and 1600 (5:28.05) to pace six qualifying athletes. Jackson Zivney claimed two silver medals in the 14U 800 (2:18.42) and 3200 (11:05), Kaitlin Stark won a bronze in the 12U 1600 (6:17.06) and the 14U 4X400 relay team of Jackson Zivney, Eric Hurst, Donovan Webb and Preston Nix ran a 4:06.32 for fifth place
The Rockwall Mustangs Track Club, which had runners competing at both the TAAF regional and the USATF regional in Abilene, was led by triple-gold medal winner Cinque Balanciere and double-gold medalist Kelli Hardenbrook.
Hardenbrook claimed golds in the 18U 1600 (5:52.05) and the 3200 (13:14.76) and Balanciere won the 10U 400 (1:03.15) and ran legs on the first-place 4X100 relay (55.62) along with Bruce Harmon, Davis Baucum and Drew Gladney and the meet record-setting 4X400 relay (4:34.71) along with Baucum, Gladney and Tanner McCalister.
Tyler Alford posted a second, third and fourth in the 12U Long Jump (14-10), 100 (13.53) and 200 (27.85) respectively; Joel Gibbs put up a second in the 16U 1600 (4:58.50) and a third in the 3200 (11:11.44); Austin Sharon won silver in the 18U Shot Put (37-09); and Davis Baucum added a silver in the 10U 400 (1:05.34).
Jamison Gladney also claimed a silver medal in the 8U 800 (3:13.62); Jarrad Jefferson captured a sixth place in the 18U 100 (11.32); Raquel Mayfield finished third in the 8U 200 (34.58); Joanna Gibbs came in fifth in the 14U 800 (2:34.76); Bruce Harmon added a fourth in the 10U 200 (30.45) and a sixth in the 100 (14.42); and Adrian Escandon won fifth place in the 14U 800 (2:23.11).
