Dallas —
The Rockwall High School girls summer basketball team capped off its summer Prime Time Sports season by winning the final 2010 Summer Hoops Tour championship at the Dallas Sportsplex and Lewisville Mac gymnasiums.
Rockwall went undefeated in Pool A against the Lady Texans from Justin Northwest and North Texas Fire, dominated MP Hoops in Interpool play, defeated the Lady Texans again in the semifinals and knocked off the only other unbeaten team, Cen Tex Ice, for the championship.
Alyssa Lang gunned in 20 points to lead the Jackets to an opening 50-20 victory over the Lady Texans on Friday. Paige Turner tossed in 10 points, Kayla Smith pumped in nine, Hannah Hughes put up seven and Morghen Day added four as Rockwall was hitting on all cylinders.
RHS followed with a 45-23 win against North Texas Fire, jumping out to a 21-11 first-half lead and extending it to the 22-point margin.
Lang and Turner dropped in double-digit scoring of 24 and 14 points respectively and Smith fired up seven points to claim the Pool A top spot.
The ladies then rolled over MP Hoops 53-22 in a physical Interpool matchup.
Lang led the way with 15 points, including 5-for-5 from the free throw line, Smith drained 14 points with 2-for-2 from the line, Turner swished eight points, Hughes added six, Day posted four and Mariah Roof kicked in two as Rockwall carried a 3-0 record into Saturday’s semifinals.
RHS then faced its biggest challenge of the tournament, having to take on the Lady Texans again without star post Lang, who had to miss the semifinals due to a prior commitment.
But, the ladies jumped out to an early 10-2 lead and never trailed en route to a 42-28 semifinal win. Smith took charge from her shooting guard position, putting up 20 points, including 6-for-8 from the free throw line and four 3-point buckets. Turner chalked up 12 points, Caitlin White hit four and Hughes, Day and Roof added two points each.
Rockwall finished off the tournament and the summer season with a 38-29 victory over previously undefeated Cen Tex Ice for the championship. Lang returned to the court for the final and led the way with 13 points.
