RHS girls top 10-4A hoops standings

ROCKWALL —

Rockwall’s No. 3 area-ranked girls basketball team took over sole possession of the top spot in the District 10-4A standings with wins over J.J. Pearce and Highland Park and a loss by Wylie.

The Lady Jackets rolled over J.J. Pearce 54-30 on Friday and downed Highland Park 46-40 on Tuesday to kick off the second round of district play.

Ellen Baker, Alyssa Lang and Sara Williamson knocked down double-digit scoring of 13, 13 and 10 points respectively to lead RHS against Pearce.

Against HP, the ladies broke open a close 34-32 battle after three periods with a 12-8 fourth quarter to book the 6-point win.

Paige Turner fired up 13 points, Lang tossed in 11, Morghen Day chipped in eight and Williamson added eight for Rockwall.

The Lady Jackets also got a lot of help from McKinney when the Lionettes defeated co-district leader Wylie 56-47 to give RHS (7-1) a one-game lead over the Lady Pirates (6-2) heading into tonight’s big heads-up game at RHS gymnasium.

Rockwall-Heath finally put up its first district win against Wylie East (48-43) on Friday and made it two straight with a 56-50 victory versus Richardson Pearce on Tuesday.

Katie Webster led the way against Wylie East with 15 points, Jordan Mitchell gunned in 14 and April Brown added nine for the Lady Hawks.

Against Pearce, Mitchell led all scorers with a game-high 23 points, Brown put up nine points and Webster pumped in nine to pace RHHS to its second 10-4A victory.
