Hodan captures gold and silver

AUSTIN — Heath swimming standout Jacey Hodan captured gold and silver medals to lead the Lady Hawks to their 10th-place team finish at the UIL State Swimming and Diving Championships at the Jamail Texas Swim Center last weekend.

Hodan, who has garnered two silver medals in the 100 Breaststroke the last two years, made it gold this time with her time of 1:04.04, edging Frisco's Whitney Allen who clocked a second-place 1:04.45.

Prior to earning Heath's first state gold medal Hodan won the silver medal in the 200 IM with her 2:06.50 that dropped almost seven seconds off her preliminary time of 2:13.07.

RHHS's 200 Medley Relay team of Morgan Madrid, Hodan, Coral Davenport and Katie Langdon swam 1:51.80 for fifth place and the same combo finished eighth in the 400 Freestyle Relay with its time of 3:45.96.

Davenport also came in 10th in the 100 Fly with her 59.09 clocking.

The Rockwall boys 200 Medley Relay team of Alex Fontenot, Jonathan Walters, Ryan Lang and Matt Lang finished 10th with its time of 1:42.27.

Walters came in ninth overall, first in the consolation finals, in the 100 Breast with his 1:01.06, Lang (Ryan) finished 12th in the 200 Free (1:47.87) and Fontenot swam 56.85 in the 100 Back for 15th place to spark the Jackets at the state championships.

The RHS boys finished 21st in the team standings out of 54 teams with 30 total points.

Highland Park's girls won their 10th straight state title with a come-from-behind 232-227 victory over Frisco, taking the championship after winning the final event, the 400 Freestyle Relay.
