SOUTHLAKE — SOUTHLAKE — Rockwall-Heath's regional 100-yard breaststroke champion Jacey Hodan will lead eight RISD swimmers to the 2010 UIL State Swimming and Diving Championships next week following their qualifying performances at the Region III championships at the Carroll ISD Aquatics Center on Saturday.
Heath's girls captured fourth place in the team standings at the Region III meet with 168 points behind champion Highland Park's 389.5, Frisco's 377 and Frisco Centennial's 185. The Rockwall girls chalked up 129 points for sixth place.
Rockwall's boys racked up 203 points for fifth place in the boys division and Heath's Hawks posted 78 points for 10th place. Frisco Wakeland won the boys title with 365 points and Highland Park finished second with 287.5 points.
In UIL swimming only the winner of each event from the eight regional competitions automatically qualifies for state and the next eight best times in each event from all regions earn qualifying berths.
Heath qualified four girls and Rockwall four boys to the state championships at the Jamail Texas Swim Center on the University of Texas campus next Friday and Saturday.
Hodan, a 2-time state silver medalist in the 100 Breast, won her specialty at region with a 1:05.34 clocking, giving her the top time in the state in the event. She also made the call up list in the 200 IM (2:09.18) with the state's third best time and will swim legs on Heath's qualifying 200 Medley Relay and 400 Freestyle Relay.
Joining Hodan on both relays will be Morgan Madrid, Coral Davenport and Katie Langdon. The foursome will take the pool as the 5th-seeded team in the 200 Medley Relay (1:52.64) and as the 10th-seeded team in the 400 Free Relay (3:47.99). They also represented Heath at the 2009 state championships.
Davenport will compete in the 100 Fly, as well, after swimming the state's seventh fastest time (59.46) at Region III.
The Rockwall boys 200 Medley Relay team of Alex Fontenot, Jonathan Walters, Ryan Lang and Matt Lang qualified for state with its time of 1:42.49, ranked 11th on the UIL psych sheet.
Lang (Ryan) will also compete in the 200 Freestyle with his 12th-best state time of 1:48.00; Fontenot clocked a 55.93 at Region III in the 100 Back and will swim at state as the 13th seed; and Walters will compete in the 100 Breast after posting a 12th-best state time of 1:03.05 at Southlake.
