Baseball teams roll at Waco Tournament
WACO — Rockwall-Heath went 5-0 and Rockwall opened at 4-0-1 as RISD baseball teams dominated at the Waco ISD Tournament to kick off the 2010 season last weekend.
Heath pitchers Jake Thompson, James Baune, Jovan Hernandez and Caleb Copley all posted wins on the mound. The Hawks defeated Stephenville 4-0, Arlington Bowie 6-3, Red Oak 7-1, Del Valle 14-2 and Killeen Harker Heights 11-0 in a show of early-season power.
Drew Baxter pounded a home run, triple and two doubles, Hernandez smashed two homers and one double, Trevor Holland hit three doubles, Thompson added three doubles, Drew Benefield banged two doubles and Tyler Harding two doubles to lead the Hawks at the plate.
Rockwall's Thomas Anderson put up two wins on the mound, Wesley Cox recorded one and Gave Gonzales booked one to spark the Jackets to wins over Lorena (11-1), Stephenville (15-0), Killeen (7-1) and Red Oak (6-0). RHS also put up a 9-9 tie against Arlington Bowie on Saturday.
Leading the Jackets at the plate in Waco were Spencer Edwards with one triple and four doubles, Steve Bean with two triples, J.D. Deloach with one homer and one double, Tucker Fielder with one homer, Corey Mills with a triple and Cox with a double.
Rockwall and Rockwall-Heath will attempt to extend their tournament win streaks this weekend when the Jackets compete in the 3-day Jesuit Tournament and the Hawks hit the road for the 3-day Burleson Tournament.
