RISD tracksters rule at Bulldog Relays
ROYSE CITY — The Rockwall Lady Jackets and Heath Lady Hawks track teams captured the championship and runnerup trophies in dominating fashion at the Bulldog Relays on Saturday at RCISD Stadium.
The RHS girls racked up 138 points en route to the title and the RHHS girls put up 119 for second-place honors.
Rockwall's boys posted 127 points for second place behind champion Sulphur Springs' 137 points and Heath totaled 61 team points for fifth place.
Lady Hawk Brianna Richardson claimed the girls high-point placque with 26 points and Greenville's Durant Freeman won the honor in the boys division with 31 points.
Richardson won the Triple Jump (38-10), the Long Jump (17-2 1/4) and ran legs on all three of Heath's fourth-place relays. Freeman finished first in the Triple Jump (42-11 1/4), second in the Long Jump (21-00 1/2), second in the 200 (22.67) and ran a leg on Greenville's winning 4X100 Relay (44.04).
Rockwall's girls were led to the title by gold-medal winning performances from Kaitlin Ross in the 400 (1:00.50), Angie Boyd in the 3200 (12:23.21) and Lindsay Loy in the Pole Vault (10-0).
Sheely Taylor added two silver medals for the Lady Jackets in the 1600 (5:40.57) and 3200 (12:30.8), Sara Cuzick claimed a second in the Discus (91-11) and a third in the Shot Put (29-07), Paula Emordi jumped 5-2 for second in the High Jump and Ellie Moses claimed a second in the Pole Vault with her 9-0 leap.
Heath received double-gold performances from Aly Coughlin in the 1600 (5:37.61) and 800 (2:26.50), making it two meets in a row following her double-gold performance at the Jacket Classic.
Brittany Huggett finished first in the 300 Hurdles and third in the 110 Hurdles, Reagan Frosini came in second in the 100 and Jackie Myers claimed second in the 400 and third in the 300 Hurdles to pace the Lady Hawks.
Rockwall distance runner Jacob Phillips posted first-place finishes in the 3200 (10:05.89) and 1600 (4:40.57) to lead the Jackets to their second-place team finish.
Logging second-place individual finishes were Will Beasley (100), Andrew Hinckley (PV), Sam Grinnan (3200), Thorne Pettigrew (800), Cody Jackson (300H) and the 4X100 and 4X400 Relays. Third-place finishers were Nathaniel Robinson (800) and Josh Broach (100).
Heath's Jonathan Fuller easily won the High Jump with his leap of 6-8, which was over a foot higher than the second-place finisher. Sebastian McGill won the 300 Hurdles and Tyler Kirwan claimed third place in the 1600 for the Hawks.
Both Rockwall and Heath will compete at the Carl Norris Relays on Saturday at Hanby Stadium in Mesquite.

Jackets Advance to championship rounds at state 7-on-7
Rockwall’s 7-on-7 football Jackets carried their outstanding season-ending league and tournament play to the 2010 Fox Sports Southwest 7-on-7 state championships at the Texas A&M University Penberthy Intramural Fields last Friday and Saturday.
