Baseball Hawks make it 11 in-a-row

ROCKWALL COUNTY — The Rockwall-Heath baseball Hawks went 5-0 at the Burleson Classic last weekend and 10-run ruled Greenville in the district opener on Tuesday to make it 11 straight victories for the 2010 season.

Rockwall went 3-2 at the Jesuit Invitational Tournament after kicking off with two wins on Thursday, including a 7-4 defeat of defending state Class 4A champion Texarkana Texas High and a 7-2 victory over highly-regarded host Jesuit.

The Jackets followed the Jesuit Tournament with a 5-2 victory over Royse City on Tuesday to kick off District 10-4A action with a perfect 1-0 record.

Rockwall-Heath had five different pitchers post wins at Burleson, with James Baune earning the 7-0 win over Wichita Falls Rider, Drew Benefield the 8-1 win versus Mansfield Summit with a save from Jacob Houpt, Jake Thompson the 12-2 defeat of Joshua, Patrict Gonzales the 13-3 win over Red Oak and Caleb Copley the 5-3 victory against Burleson with a save by Jovan Hernandez.

Leading the way at the plate for the Hawks were Thompson with two home runs and a double, Drew Baxter with a homer and two doubles, Trevor Holland with a triple and two doubles, Benefield with three doubles and John Branum with two doubles.

Hernandez also blasted a home run, Gonzales pounded a double, Houpt a double and Armando Villa a double to spark RHHS at Burleson.

The Hawks then opened district play with a dominating 10-0 win over Greenville at the RHHS baseball complex. Branum blasted a bases-loaded home run to help break the game open in the Hawks big 6-run fifth inning. Holland pounded a triple with an RBI and Benefield drilled a double with an RBI to pace RHHS to the victory and a 1-0 district start.

Rockwall's Jackets also opened district play with a win at Royse City. Wesley Cox earned the victory on the mound and J.D. DeLoach led the way at the plate with two doubles. Blake Turner also banged a 2-bagger to lead RHS to the win.

Rockwall got three wins on the mound at the Jesuit Tournament with Thomas Anderson getting the 7-4 win against Texas High with a save from Cole Harris, Cox booking the 7-2 victory over Jesuit and Gabe Gonzales chalking up the 9-6 win over Jesuit in a second matchup.

Josh DeLoach put up a triple and two doubles at the plate and went 3-for-3 with two singles against Texas High, Tucker Fielder banged two triples at the tourney, Cox drilled three doubles, J.D. DeLoach and Corey Mills added doubles and Will Stewart sparked the first Jesuit win with three key singles.
