ALLEN —
Rockwall and Rockwall-Heath volleyball teams played a combined 15 matches at the prestigious Allen Texas Open last weekend in Allen.
Rockwall got off to a slow start in pool play, crossover and Consolation Round 1 before winning three straight in the Consolation Bracket for the title.
The Lady Jackets lost to Richardson Pearce (25-21, 25-23), McKinney Boyd (25-18, 25-18) and John Paul II (25-19, 25-23) in Division 4 pool play at Erickson Middle School.
They lost again in the Challenger Crossover to Lakeridge (17-25, 25-22, 25-23) and fell to John Paul II for the second time to move into Consolation Round 2.
RHS went undefeated in Consolation, defeating Sachse (25-22, 25-15) in Round 2, Lake Travis (25-22, 21-25, 25-23) in the Semifinal and McKinney (25-20, 25-23) for the Consolation Championship.
Rockwall-Heath’s Lady Hawks won Pool F on Friday with a win over Keller (19-25, 25-23, 25-20), a defeat of Katy Seven Lakes (25-22, 25-22) and a loss to Flower Mound Marcus (14-25, 25-21, 25-23).
The ladies then lost to three-time defending state champion Lovejoy (25-14, 25-14) in the crossover round, knocked off Plano East (25-23, 23-25, 25-20) in Championship Round 1 and lost to Bishop Lynch (25-21, 25-21) in Round 2 to move into the Silver Bracket Semifinal.
In the Semifinal, Heath fell to Plano in three sets (25-15, 21-25, 25-16). Plano went on to win the Silver Bracket Championship with a 25-15, 25-16 victory over McKinney Boyd.
Frisco Heritage claimed the Bronze Bracket title, defeating Allen 24-26, 25-13, 25-14.
Third-place honors went to Southlake Carroll with a 25-22, 25-17 victory over Bishop Lynch.
The Gold Bracket Championship was captured by Coppell in a hard-fought win over Lovejoy (16-25, 25-23, 30-28) in the final game.

The Rockwall softball team finally knocked off Plano East in its fourth attempt of the 2013 season and won the Class 5A area championship in the process.
Rockwall, which fell to East three times in regular season, made the best of its fourth matchup, downing the Lady Panthers 5-0 at McKinney North High School in a one-game playoff last Friday. -

Rockwall-Heath, the area’s No.7-ranked Class 5A baseball team, completely dominated Lakeview Centennial, sweeping a best-of-three series for the Class 5A bi-district championship last weekend.

Rockwall paid tribute and showed its appreciation to departing head girls’ basketball coach Jill McDill on Monday for her 12 years at the helm of the highly-successful Lady Jacket basketball program.
McDill is leaving to take the head coaching job and assistant athletic coordinator position at Sunnyvale High School, where she and her family live. -

The Rockwall girls gymnastics team fell short by less than half a point in its quest for a third straight state gymnastics championship last weekend at the Rockwall High School gymnasium.
