Softball Jackets get in scrimmage action

ROCKWALL —

Rockwall’s softball girls got in lots of scrimmage action at the Campbell Complex on Saturday despite Friday’s inclement weather conditions.

With the field tarped throughout the rains, conditions on the infield were perfect for multiple games on Saturday, even though brisk winds were somewhat chilly.

The Lady Jackets kicked off the four-team scrimmage with an early morning loss to North Forney, which locked up the 75-minute game with a grand slam home run.

Rockwall then racked up a 5-1 win over Mesquite Poteet behind a 4-hit, six inning performance on the mound by freshman pitcher Kayla Vandergriff.

Katie Page went 2-for-2 at the plate with two singles and three RBIs, Mallory Taylor hit 2-for-2 with a double, single and one RBI, Bailey Frierson was 1-for-2 and Cyndi Bertrand, Bailey Wallace and Carlie Jenkins went 1-for-3 to spark the win.

The Lady Jackets followed with a 10-2 final game victory versus The Colony.

Freshman hurler Emily Cowan went three and one-half innings on the mound for the win, giving up seven-hits, one walk and two runs.

Bertrand pounded two RBIs at the plate on 2-for-2 hitting, Ashton Atwell went 2-for-2 with a double, single and two RBIs, Cowan was 1-for-1, Stormy Herrera 1-for-1, Wallace 1-for-2 with three RBIs, Kendal Sauter 1-for-2 and Frierson 1-for-3 with two RBIs. Jenkins stole home for Rockwall’s 10th run.

Rockwall was scheduled to hit the road to Plano West on Tuesday and travels to Corsicana for more scrimmage action on Saturday.
