Dallas —
The No. 6 state-ranked Heritage Christian Academy Eagles ran roughshod over TAPPS Six-Man D1-2 foe Tyler Street Christian Academy 54-8 on their home field last Saturday.
Heritage scored on all six of its offensive possessions en route to the 45-point mercy rule win with 5:34 left in the third quarter.
The Eagles marched 48 yards in five plays on their opening possession, with Wes Fleetwood scoring from eight yards out for the early lead. Garrett Blankenship nailed the first of his six two-point PATs to make the score 8-0 with 5:19 remaining in the first period.
A fumble recovery and return to the 11-yard line by Wyatt French allowed HCA to score again 14 seconds later on a Blankenship to Jake Edge six-yard TD strike.
The HCA defense forced a punt on Tyler Street’s next drive, taking possession at the 38-yard line. Colin Westmoreland then sprinted 35 yards to the end zone on the Eagles second play for a 24-0 Heritage lead with 2:43 still left in the first period.
Fleetwood then put up his second touchdown and the Eagles fourth on a 30-yard cutback scamper with 6:42 left before intermission.
Tyler Street followed with an eight-yard TD pass, capping a 58-yard drive for its only points of the game.
But, Heritage needed only three plays to answer with a 10-yard TD run by Fleetwood to close out the first-half scoring with HCA carrying a 40-8 lead into halftime.
On the Eagles first drive of the second half, Josh Edge scored on a two-yard dive on the fifth play for a 46-8 lead. The PAT snap was mishandled and an incomplete pass left HCA with a 36-point advantage.
French then intercepted a Tyler Street pass at the 23-yard line and advanced it to the 12. Travis Cooper smashed in from three yards out and Blankenship kicked the PAT to close out the game under the 45-point mercy rule.
Fleetwood led the Eagles offense with three TDs of 12, 30 and 10 yards, Blankenship threw one TD pass to Jake Edge and tallied 12 points on six PATs, Westmoreland scored one TD, Josh Edge one and Travis Cooper one.
French sparked the defense with a fumble recovery, an interception and four passes broken up.
Heritage will next take on rival Greenville Christian School on Saturday at 2 p.m. in Greenville.
No. 19 GCS enters the game after a 54-0 loss to No. 1-ranked Dallas Covenant and a 59-48 loss to Denton Calvary.
