Hawks pin Jackets for 19-4A title

Risd sending 17 wrestlers to region III

ROCKWALL —  

  Rockwall-Heath’s wrestling team made it back-to-back District 19-4A championships with its 202-178.5 defeat of Rockwall at Henderson High School gymnasium last Saturday.

  The RISD powers dominated wrestling action at the championships, with third-place Lancaster chalking up 35 team points and fourth-place Henderson logging 21 points.

  Heath qualified 14 and Rockwall 13, with one alternate, to the regional competition with their performances at the district championships.

  According to winning head coach Shane Seleznoff, “I am very proud of every wrestler on this team. This has been a special group of kids to coach and they showed just one of the reasons why at district. Whatever happens at region or state they can be proud of the traditions they have started at Heath. It is an honor to be their coach.”

  Leading the way for the Hawks were district champions Jacob Makelke (120), Jacob Black (126), Nakona Brawner (132), Tyler Gaddis (138), Jacob Glastad (160), Brady Van Bevers (170), Troy Mercer (195) and Jay Arnold (285).

  Second-place finishers that will also advance to Region III at Katy’s Merrell Center next weekend include Grant Rose (106), B.K. Sanford (113), Brogan Mike-Mayer (145), Christian Johnson (152), Alex Erebia (182) and Garrett Birleson (220).

  Rockwall wrestlers locking down district weight-class championships were Andrew Hyde (106), Carter Smith (113), Austin Tamez (145), Cade Goss (152), Daniel Roland (182) and Collin Hill (220).

  Taking second-place honors and advancing to region were Drew Troxler (120), Cody Jonas (126), Marcus Hess (132), Chris Humphreys (138), Garrett Miller (160), John Hernandez (170) and Rilee Fisher (195). Austin Hatten (285) finished third and will advance as an alternate.

  Heath and Rockwall were scheduled to travel to Katy on Thursday and begin competition on Friday at 9:00 a.m. with two rounds of championship and one round of consolation. Session 2 will start at 3 p.m. with two rounds of consolation and the championship semifinals.

  Consolation semifinals will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday with championship and consolation finals beginning at 12:00 p.m.
