Maiya Collins clocked a 19:43 for second place individually in the Class 5A/4A girls division to lead Rockwall to 158 team points and seventh place at the Rowlett Jim Baker Cross Country Invitational at Springfield Park last Saturday.
It marked the second straight meet that Collins has finished in the runnerup spot, having also finished second at the Lake Highlands Invitational two weeks ago.
The Rockwall boys and Heath girls also posted Top-10 team finishes at Rowlett, with the Jackets claiming fifth place and the RHHS girls capturing ninth place.
Rockwall’s boys team of Gaines Kinsey, Robbie Harmon, Spencer McKee, Sean Taylor, Colt Ramsey, Arturo Almazan and Sam Fox picked up RISD’s top finish with its fifth place in the 5A/4A boys class.
Kinsey ran 17:20 for 14th place, Harmon clocked 17:45 for 20th place, McKee came in 31st (18:13), Taylor 41st (18:31), Ramsey 50th (18:52), Almazan 56th (19:00) and Fox 62nd (19:09) to lead the RHS boys. The Jackets were competing without standout Justin Tokuz, who is nursing a pulled hamstring.
Heath’s boys team of Austin James (25th), German Zaldivar (35th), Keith Monserate (52nd), Tyler Foreman (90th) and Nick Killian (95th) didn’t finish in the Top-10, but most improved on their 2012 times.
Frisco Heritage won the boys 5A/4A championship with 68 points, Bishop Lynch finished second with 74 points, McKinney came in third with 91 points, North Mesquite finished fourth with 127 points and Rockwall fifth with 156 points.
The Rockwall girls team of Collins, Emily Drewery, Amanda Thorton, Angie Boyd, Bailey Hines and Hannah Edwards locked down seventh place with its 158 points.
Drewery followed Collins with her 24th place (21:38), Thorton came in 36th (22:18), Boyd finished 37th (22:19), Hines 59th (23:29) and Edwards 72nd (24:20) to lead the Lady Jackets, who finished in third place at Lake Highlands last week.
The Heath girls team of Emily Fletcher, Lindsey Archuleta, Nina Jaimes, Ryann Jones, Caitlin Hudecek, Mykala Williams and Paige Parent finished in ninth place with its 210 points after capturing fifth place at Lake Highlands.
Fletcher came in seventh with her 20:02, Archuleta finished 38th with her 22:19, Jaimes 53rd (23:15), Jones 55th (23:19), Hudecek 57th (23:21), Williams 60th (23:29) and Parent 74th (24:21) over the three-mile course.
Frisco Heritage’s girls joined the boys by winning the 5A/4A championship with 38 points, North Forney finished second with 122 points and North Mesquite came in third with 128 points.
Both Rockwall and Heath will travel to Forney for the Jackrabbit Run at Forney Community Park on Saturday, with the varsity girls race beginning at 8 a.m.
