HUMBLE —
The Rockwall Mustangs track and field qualifiers to the AAU Junior Olympic Championships in Humble kicked off the eight-day competition with several top finishes in early events last weekend.
Fiona Dunleavy captured the silver medal in the Intermediate Girls 3,000 Race Walk with her time of 17:31.21 on Sunday.
Brother Thomas Dunleavy added a fourth-place finish in the Sub-Youth 3,000 Race Walk with his 20:39.21 clocking.
In other weekend action, Triathlete Canyon Hall came in 17th in the Sub-Bantam Boys Triathlon with 356 points in the event that features High Jump, 400 meters and Shot Put.
Tyrus Fort claimed 21st place on Saturday in the Bantam Boys Outdoor Pentathlon with 1,336 points despite receiving no points in the Shot Put after posting fouls.
In early week competitions, Cinque Balanciere claimed seventh place in the Sub-Midget Boys 400 meters with his time of 59.55, Devon Maheshwari finished 24th in the Midget Boys 3,000 meters with his time of 11:32.44 and Fort came in 39th in the Bantam Boys High Jump (4-02).
Many of the Rockwall-area qualifiers to the TAAF Summer Games in Corpus Christi chose to skip last week’s state competition.
Mustang Joanna Gibbs captured eighth place in the Intermediate Girls 3,200 meters with her time of 13:34.70, Devon Maheshwari came in 15th in the Bantam Boys 1600 meters (5:54.96) and Cinque Balanciere qualified for the finals in the Midget Boys 400 meters with his 1:01.91, but left before the finals to compete at the AAU Junior Olympics in Humble.
Club Vaultitude’s Noah Sewell tied for 16th place in the Youth Boys Pole Vault with a vault of 8-06.
