Jackets to face one of state’s top runners

Travel to McKinney for showdown versus Boyd

ROCKWALL — After falling to No. Five-ranked Coppell 40-3 last Friday, Rockwall will next attempt to slow down McKinney Boyd’s all-state RB Bryan Driskell at Ron Poe Stadium tonight.

Boyd knocked off Garland 31-21 last week behind a strong performance by Driskell. The senior standout (317-for-2,079 yards, 28 TDs) ran for 221 yards and a touchdown and had a 96-yard kickoff return for a score to lead the Broncos (1-2) to the win.

Garland actually put up 24 first downs to Boyd’s 11 and 431 total yards to the Broncos 287, but fumbled six times and lost three.

Boyd QB Curtis Ladd threw for 54 yards on 6-of-16 passing, with Patrick Land catching 4-for-43 yards and Driskell 2-for-11 yards.

Rockwall comes into the matchup following a 40-3 dominating loss to Coppell, one of the area’s strongest early-season teams, last Friday at Wilkerson-Sanders Stadium.

Coppell (3-0) took complete charge in the first half, scoring on four of its first five possessions to carry a 28-3 lead into halftime.

Tyler Bonny nailed a 28-yard field goal with 30 seconds left in the second period for Rockwall’s only points.

The Jackets had a chance for more points on their first possession of the second half, but had a field goal attempt blocked and returned 85 yards for a Coppell score with 6:35 left in the third quarter. Barron Black then blocked the first of two PATs to hold the Cowboys to a 34-6 lead.

The Cowboys recovered a fumble on the ensuing kickoff at the Jackets 23-yard line and scored two plays later for the 40-3 final score after Black blocked his second PAT of the game.

Rockwall QB Dylan Campman completed 7-of-10 passes for 120 yards. Zach Berryman caught 3-for-65 yards, Xavier Castille 3-for-31 yards and Jay Galloway 1-for-24 yards.

RB Chris Warren, who is among the area leaders in both rushing and scoring, led all rushers with 84 yards on 19 carries, Berryman added 5-for-34 yards and Campman 8-for-9 yards.

Jared Farrow led the Jacket defense with four tackles,11 assists and one tackle for loss, Josh Rippy logged three tackles and seven assists, Chris Hinckley posted five tackles with two tackles for loss, Daniel Roland had four tackles and three assists, Nehemiah Solis two tackles, five assists, one tackle for loss and one sack, Sean Hardenbrook two tackles, four assists and one pass broken up and Barron Black three tackles, one assist and two blocked PATs.
