Gymnasts open season at Lakeview

The Rockwall High School girls gymnastics team took the win in their first meet of the year, held on Nov. 12. The team scored a 114.70, slightly more than two points ahead of Rockwall-Heath (112.65).There were nine teams represented at the season-opening competition.
Rockwall is returning from taking third place in the state meet last year.
It was Heath’s Lori Williamson who took the win in the all-around individual competition with a score of 38.65. Williamson is returning to action for the Hawks after sitting out most of last season. Rockwall’s Jenna Jefferey scored 38.20 for third place in the individual competition. Jefferey took home tied first place finish in the floor exercise, scoring a 9.75 in the compulsory meet. Rockwall’s Lindsay Loy was part of that three way tie with Keller’s Tiffany Martinez.
The Rockwall boys team took home fourth place with a score of 163.30 and Heath followed in fifth with 160.90.
Heath’s Blake Nono topped the RISD boys with a 55.30 individual all-around score for fourth place at the meet. Rockwall’s Robert Johnson followed in fifth with a 55.00.
“The guys were without two of their top gymnasts, but still performed well,” said RHS coach Cameron Sweny “Out of 12 full teams, we placed fourth and not far behind second and third. We will see how our team compares when we are full strength on Dec. 4 at the Bell Invitational in Hurst.”

A&M-Commerce nears 2010 Harvey Martin Classic at Cotton Bowl
Anticipation is building around the Texas A&M University-Commerce football team, its students, alumni and fans as the Lions have hit the practice field in preparation for the upcoming season and the 2010 Harvey Martin Classic. The third annual matchup is set for Saturday, Sept. 11, at 5 p.m. against the Angelo State Rams at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas.

The Rockwall High School cheerleading squad is inviting all aspiring RHS cheerleaders in kindergarten through 6th grade to a mini cheer camp on Saturday, Sept. 25 from 9 a.m. until noon at the Williams Middle School gymnasium.

Rockwall-Heath’s Lady Hawk volleyball team captured the Silver Bracket title at the Lewisville/The Colony Tournament last weekend and improved to 15-2 in the process.

Rockwall takes scrimmage win over Denison as season gets under way
Rockwall racked up a 24-0 regular scrimmage score and a 7-6 live period tally to knock off Class 4A Division II state semifinalist Denison at Wilkerson-Sanders Stadium last Friday.
The scrimmage victory sent the Jackets into last night’s season opener and kickoff to the Heritage Honor Before Victory Classic (after press time) against Trevone Boykin and No. 4 area-ranked West Mesquite on a roll. -
Heath Hawks open 2010 football season tonight
Rockwall-Heath will kick off its 2010 regular-season football schedule tonight against Garland Naaman Forest in the Heritage Honor Before Victory Classic at Wilkerson-Sanders Stadium.
The first annual Classic is hosted by Rockwall and Rockwall-Heath and also featured Rockwall against West Mesquite last night. -
Getting back into the swing of things
All over town, the sights and sounds of Fall are making their annual appearance as students prepare to go back to school, and all the extracurricular activity that goes along with it.
Rockwall High School recognized and honored its 2010-2011 athletic teams, band, trainers, Stingerettes and all those associated with its athletic program at the annual Meet The Jackets gala at Wilkerson-Sanders Stadium on Saturday. -

The Rockwall Lady Jackets advanced to the Gold Bracket final at the Garland ISD Invitational Volleyball Tournament last weekend before losing to crosstown rival Rockwall-Heath for the bracket championship.

Heath spikers win Garland Gold Bracket
Rockwall-Heath’s Lady Hawk volleyball team captured the Gold Bracket title at the Garland ISD Invitational last weekend with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Rockwall’s Lady Jackets.
RHHS led up to the bracket championship match with four straight wins on Friday at Rowlett High School. -
Swim tryouts for Rockwall Racers announced
The Rockwall Racers Swim Team will conduct tryouts on Wednesday and Thursday, Aug. 25 and 26, from 4-5 p.m. at the RISD Aquatics Center located at 1205 T.L. Townsend next to Wilkerson-Sanders Stadium.
