Gymnasts open season at Lakeview

The Rockwall High School girls gymnastics team took the win in their first meet of the year, held on Nov. 12. The team scored a 114.70, slightly more than two points ahead of Rockwall-Heath (112.65).There were nine teams represented at the season-opening competition.
Rockwall is returning from taking third place in the state meet last year.
It was Heath’s Lori Williamson who took the win in the all-around individual competition with a score of 38.65. Williamson is returning to action for the Hawks after sitting out most of last season. Rockwall’s Jenna Jefferey scored 38.20 for third place in the individual competition. Jefferey took home tied first place finish in the floor exercise, scoring a 9.75 in the compulsory meet. Rockwall’s Lindsay Loy was part of that three way tie with Keller’s Tiffany Martinez.
The Rockwall boys team took home fourth place with a score of 163.30 and Heath followed in fifth with 160.90.
Heath’s Blake Nono topped the RISD boys with a 55.30 individual all-around score for fourth place at the meet. Rockwall’s Robert Johnson followed in fifth with a 55.00.
“The guys were without two of their top gymnasts, but still performed well,” said RHS coach Cameron Sweny “Out of 12 full teams, we placed fourth and not far behind second and third. We will see how our team compares when we are full strength on Dec. 4 at the Bell Invitational in Hurst.”

Jackets Advance to championship rounds at state 7-on-7
Rockwall’s 7-on-7 football Jackets carried their outstanding season-ending league and tournament play to the 2010 Fox Sports Southwest 7-on-7 state championships at the Texas A&M University Penberthy Intramural Fields last Friday and Saturday.
The Jackets won 2-of-3 Pool O games and only missed a sweep by two points on Friday to advance to Saturday’s championship rounds, along with Whitehouse. - More Sports Headlines
