Swimmers ready to kick off 2012-2013 season

Compete at Frisco ISD Sprint Invitational

ROCKWALL — RISD swimmers opened their 2012-2013 season by competing at the Frisco ISD Sprint Invitational at the Frisco ISD Natatorium last weekend against 21 top teams.

The Heath boys team racked up 147 points for seventh place, Rockwall’s boys finished ninth with 117 points, the RHS girls came in 10th with 67 points and the Heath girls posted 29 points for 14th place.

Frisco Wakeland defeated Frisco 498.5-to-263 for the boys championship and the Frisco girls logged 628 points to win the girls division, with Southlake Carroll second at 286.5.

Rockwall state champion Raena Eldridge captured first place in the 50-yard fly with her time of 27.09 and finished second to Frisco’s April McDonough in a near dead heat in the 200-yard free (2:00.12).

New RHS transfer Haylie Harbin, primarily a distance swimmer, finished sixth in the 100-yard free with her 58.18 clocking.

William Rapp led the Rockwall boys with a fourth-place finish in the 200-yard free (1:52.10), Noah Day came in fourth in the 50-yard fly (25.91) and 10th in the 200-yard free (1:55.60), freshman Alex Rodriguez, an age-group national record holder in the Dominican Republic, placed fifth in the 50-yard breast (29.44) and ninth in the 200-yard free (1:55.09) and freshman Mitchell Eldridge came in seventh in the 100-yard free (53.01).

The RHS boys 200-yard freestyle Relay of Vu, Rodriguez, Rapp and Day finished fifth (1:35.87) and the girls 200-yard free relay team of Cummings, Harbin, Voth and Wagner swam 1:53.01 for 10th place.

Heath’s Jared Butler came in second in the 100-yard IM (54.41), second in the 200-yard free (1:48.73) and swam on the third-place 200-yard free relay of Butler, E. Perlitz, C. Perlitz and Villarreal (1:35.00).

Cole Perlitz came in fifth in the 50-yard back (28.52) and 10th in the 100-yard free (53.32).

Evan Perlitz finished 10th in the 100-yard IM (1:02.88) and swam on the fifth-place 100-Yard Free Relay of Perlitz, Vaughan, Flores and K. Butler (46.51).

Harper Gillentine led the Heath girls with her fourth-place finish in the 100-yard free (57.89) and seventh place in the 200-Yard Free (2:07.88).
