Jackets overpower Wylie in final 10-4A game

Bi-district playoff opponent still undetermined

ROCKWALL —   Rockwall’s Yellowjacket hoopsters dominated Wylie 52-36 on Tuesday on Senior Night at RHS gymnasium in the final District 10-4A regular-season game of 2012.

But, the Jackets final 10-4A seeding and bi-district playoff opponent were still uncertain on Wednesday.

Rockwall’s victory and a loss by McKinney North at Richardson Pearce put the two playoff teams in a tie for third place with 8-6 records

District 10-4A rules call for a coin toss to determine playoff seeding in the event of a tie. That toss was scheduled for Wednesday after press time.

Following Tuesday’s final district games, the playoff scenario looked something llike this: A fourth-place seeding would send Rockwall to post season to face District 9-4A champion Frisco, probably at Allen High School next Tuesday. A third-place finish would pit the Jackets against either Carrollton Creekview or Frisco Centennial, which ended their seasons at 11-3 and tied for second place. RHS would take on the second seed for the bi-district championship at a time, date and place to be determined later.

Whichever opponent, Rockwall enters post-season play on a roll after knocking off Wylie by 16 points in dominating fashion.

The Jackets broke open a close 14-12 first quarter by outscoring the Pirates 13-7 in the second period and 14-3 in the third to seal the victory early.

Austin Grandstaff led all scorers with 13 points, Elijah Thomas hit eight, Jared Ragland gunned in seven, Wes Davis fired up six and Avery Knutson added six.

Rockwall-Heath closed out its season on Tuesday with an 80-56 loss to playoff-bound McKinney.

The Hawks fell behind 20-4 in the first period and could never cut the deficit.

Tyler McKay and Christian Nwabuko scored 12 points each, Cameron Martin hit 10 points, Orion Keith put up eight and Selvin Villeda knocked down seven in the final loss.

RHHS ends its season with a 2-12 district record and 8-19 overall record.
