Lady Jackets playoff bound

ROCKWALL —

Rockwall’s district-champion Lady Jackets closed out regular season play with a 52-29 win over Richardson Pearce on Tuesday and will open post season against District 9-4A fourth seed Frisco Centennial on either Monday or Tuesday.

Centennial lost its final game to Frisco Heritage 47-46 on Tuesday to set up the matchup. According to RHS head coach Jill McDill, she is attempting to schedule the bi-district opener for Monday at either Sachse or Naaman Forest. No other information was available at press time.

Against Pearce, Rockwall opened a 17-9 first quarter lead, but then put up only two points in the second period before finishing off the game with 33 second half points.

Alyssa Lang knocked down a game-high 17 points, Kayla Smith drained 13, Paige Turner hit 10 and Sara Williamson added nine in the final regular-season win.

The ladies lost only their second district game of the season last Friday in a last-minute heartbreaker to McKinney North on Senior Night.

North entered the contest needing a win to stay in the playoff picture and brought an extremely aggressive up-tempo game to RHS gymnasium.

The Lady Bulldogs built a 21-19 halftime edge before Rockwall took a 32-31 lead after three periods and held a 40-39 advantage with only 6.2 seconds left. But, North then dropped in a 2-point put-back to hand RHS the tough 1-point loss.

Lang led Rockwall with 12 points, Smith fired up nine and Williamson chipped in eight in the loss.

Heath’s Lady Hawks (3-11) closed out their season on a high note, knocking off Wylie East 54-53 at RHHS gymnasium.

Jordan Mitchell, Alexis Fisher and Katie Webster posted double-digit scoring, with Mitchell gunning in 12 points, Fisher 11 and Webster 10.

The ladies lost at Highland Park 71-27 on Friday after falling behind 35-10 at halftime.

The Lady Scots held RHHS to single-digit scoring, with Mitchell and Webster leading the way with nine points each.
