Rockwall —
Heritage Christian Academy ran roughshod over Lewisville Temple Christian and Dallas Academy in a 6-man tri-scrimmage on Saturday at the Eagles practice field.
HCA rolled over Dallas Academy by a score of five TDs to zero in a win highlighted by strong defensive play from Eagles Evan Pettit, Travis Arterburn, Caleb Cathey and Austin Pettit. Sophomore Joshua Edge also ran in a 10-yard fumble recovery for the defense.
Offensively, Heritage kicked off the scoring with a 32-yard scamper by RB Cathey on the first play after having a 32-yard Cathey TD run called back.
QB Nathan Mateer then found brother Aaron Mateer on a 33-yard TD down the right sideline. He also drilled two more touchdown passes to Evan Pettit for 12 and 21 yards to give the Eagles the 5-0 victory over Dallas Academy.
Heritage opened the scoring against Lewisville Temple with a spectacular 60-yard TD aerial from Mateer (Nathan) to Mateer (Aaron), then had a 75-yard TD run by new transfer Krys Harber called back before Arterburn hauled in a 4-yard TD strike in the back of the end zone from Mateer.
Harber followed with a 60-yard TD dash to put HCA up 3-0 going into the live quarter.
Harber kicked off the live period with another 60-yard touchdown sprint. But, Lewisville quickly answered with a 40-yard TD pass behind the Eagles defensive secondary.
Mateer then connected with Asa Burke on an 18-yard TD strike that was answered again by Lewisville with a 22-yard touchdown pass.
Heritage came right back though with a 29-yard TD pass from Mateer to Pettit (Austin) for the final winning score in the live period and an overall 6-2 victory versus Lewisville.
HCA will open regular-season play tonight against Arlington St. Paul Prep at 7:30 p.m. as part of the DFW Mustang Classic.
