Treadway leads Fulton to 73-59 win

HCA plays tough against state champions

ROCKWALL — The No. Eight-ranked Fulton School Falcons used a spectaular performance by standout Todd Treadway to rack up a 73-59 victory over TCAF No. 12 Westlake Academy last Friday.

Treadway rushed for 280 yards and four touchdowns, hauled in three receptions for 70 yards and two TDs and threw for 288 yards and five TDs on 14-of-18 passing.

Two-way starter Hayden Leverett caught 10 passes for 211 yards and four touchdowns, rushed for 19 yards on six carries and made several key plays on defense.

Conner Cleveland also made numerous big plays on defense while locking down Westlake’s best receiver. He passed for 18 yards and one TD on 4-of-7 passing and had one 73-yard pass reception.

Brenner Newman put up double-digit tackles for the third straight week and added two forced fumbles and one interception. He drew high praise for his play from head coach Josh Johnson. “We blitz him from the secondary, play him man free, cover zero and bump and run. He is one of those players who is all over the field and has a nose for the football.”

Also turning in top games for the Falcons were defensive captain Ryan Stockton, who was the most physical player on the field, and freshman standout Trey Ivey, who started at wide receiver and had one six-yard TD.

“We need to find some way to get our two-way players a little rest,” said Johnson. “They start feeling it late in the game, especially against a pass-happy team like Westlake.”

Fulton hosts TAPPS No. 13-ranked Greenville Christian School, a 40-22 loser to Fannindel last week, at the Heath Turf Field tonight.

No. Six-ranked Heritage Christian Academy didn’t pull off the upset against defending state champion Abilene Christian, but played tough in its 30-22 loss at Wisdom Stadium in Rockwall last Friday.

Despite the loss, the 2-1 Eagles moved from No. Eight to No. Six in the sixmanfootball .com TAPPS D1 rankings.

They will hit the road to Carrollton tonight to face No. Three-ranked independent Carrollton Christian. Carrollton only lost to TCAF No. Two-ranked Lucas Christian 40-34 in Week 1 and bested Azle Christian JV 52-46 in Zero Week.
