Rockwall’s Tennis Jackets kicked off the first tournament of the spring season with a second-place finish against 16 teams at the Ennis Varsity Invitational last Friday and Saturday.
According to head coach Lana Fulkerson, “Friday was a very successful day and the weather wasn’t too bad. But, Saturday was the coldest ever with 26 degree wind chills. The kids pulled out some Jacket Fight and played very well even though they couldn’t feel their hands.”
In Mixed Doubles play the A team of Brandon Hudson/Hannah Duncan finished second to Ennis and the B team of Sarah Meacham/Greg Nelson took first place over Ennis.
Caleb Hale won the title in Boys B Singles, Sarah Hall claimed first place consolation in Girls B Singles, the Girls A Doubles team of Tijana Neskovic/Alyssa Gaertner finished fourth and the B Doubles team of Madison Milner/Karly Matthews also claimed fourth place.
Clay Higginbotham and Nathan Hogan took second place consolation in Boys B Doubles and the A team of Wolfie Seibert/Josh Newman came in seventh in a strong bracket.
The RHS JV team racked up a win over 14 teams at the JV Frozen Ball Tournament on Thursday at the WSS Tennis Facility.
Boys Singles players Cooper Hayley, Ryan Rock and Doug Yance swept the competition, Stephanie Shell took second place in Girls Singles and the Mixed Doubles team of Cassedy Crawford/CollinSevier captured first place.
The Girls Doubles final pitted RHS teammates battling for the title. Payton Barker and Vaniesha Hendricks defeated Brittany Songer and Sarah Byrom in a tiebreaker 9-8 match.
The Boys Doubles team of Adam Hogan/Tanner Olson defeated Highland Park for first place and the team of Cyrus Sani/Jimmy Deguenther bested J.J. Pearce for third place.

Soccer girls dominate all-district
The regional quarterfinalist Rockwall girls soccer team placed eight players and sectional finalist Rockwall-Heath had four plus head coach Marco Duran on the District 21-4A All-District team announced by the district coaches.

The Heath Hawks baseball team routed Dallas Woodrow Wilson 10-0 on Saturday in a game carried over from Friday night for the Class 4A Region II Area Championship at The Colony.
