El Paso man pleads guilty to corruption

EL PASO (AP) — El Paso businessman Bob Jones has pleaded guilty to bribing county and school officials in a widespread corruption case.

He pleaded guilty to six counts of corruption Thursday. Several local school trustees and some former members of the El Paso County Commissioners Court were bribed, prosecutors say.

Jones, 63, is the former president of the National Center for the Employment of the Disabled. He and two other center officials were accused of embezzling millions of dollars from government programs.

Federal prosecutors dropped most of the 42 charges filed against Jones last year in two indictments in exchange for the plea, the El Paso Time reports.

U.S. District Judge Frank Montalvo will sentence him later.
