HEATH —
In today’s world of cellphone cameras and social media networks, anything and everything that happens can be viewed by thousands, if not millions, of people.
A prime example is a violent encounter between 16-year-old Kierra Perry of Rockwall-Heath High School and an unnamed fellow student that was video taped and then uploaded to Facebook. Dallas television news outlets have broadcast the video, taken Oct. 18, and made it viewable online.
The 1:14 minute video shows Perry and the other student engaging in a fist fight before fellow students break them up. It’s difficult to tell who or what instigated the incident, as the video is both blurry and shaky. Near the end, students begin to pick up textbooks and other school materials dropped in the fight.
Both students have been charged with Class C Misdemeanors and suspended.
The Rockwall Independent School District released the following statement:
“The Rockwall Independent School District takes any allegation of bullying extremely seriously. Although we cannot discuss individual student discipline issues, I can tell you that we are investigating the allegations in question both at the campus and district levels. It is always our goal to work in partnership with parents and students to quickly address and resolve such issues.”
