ROCKWALL —
More than 3,000 Rockwall County residents have taken advantage of early voting, according to Rockwall County Elections Administrator Glenda Denton.
“We have had 3,090 people vote in early elections so far, and that does not count mail-in ballots,” she said Wedesday morning. “We had about 18,000 ballots cast in early voting in 2007, so we’re well on our way to that.”
Lines have stretched around the election office in downtown Rockwall, and some voters have become frustrated. The polls will have extended hours on Thursday and Friday.
“We’ve had people complaining about the lines, but according to law we can only be open our regular hours,” Denton said. “On Thursday and Friday we will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. for people going to or getting off of work.”
There are currently four polling locations open in Rockwall County: the Elections Office at 107 E. Kaufman; Royse City Hall at 305 N. Arch in Royse City; Heath City Hall at 200 Laurence; and at Cullins-Lake Pointe Elementary at 5701 Scenic Drive in Rowlett.
All four locations will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 25-27, and the three non-Rowlett locations will be open Oct. 29-31 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
All four locations will have extended hours on Nov. 1-2 and will open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. A set of FAQs is available at www.rockwallcountytexas.com. As of Oct. 24, there are 48,705 registered voters in Rockwall County. In the July 31 runoff elections, 17.45 percent of the 46,645 registered county residents voted.
