HEATH —
Rockwall-Heath will be attempting to make it two-in-a-row against Rockwall when it takes on the Jackets in the I-30 Classic tonight at Wilkerson-Sanders Stadium.
The Hawks have won two of three games in the annual Classic and are expecting to keep the Ralph Hall Cup they won last year with a 21-13 victory.
Rockwall edged Heath in 2010 in a 52-51 thriller that saw almost 1,200 yards put up in the high-scoring battle.
The Hawks enter the district-opening game with a 3-1 record, losing only to Richland in a 24-21 heartbreaker.
They are coming off a huge Homecoming week that was capped with a 45-0 rout over Rowlett at WSS.
Heath baseball star Bret Boswell and Highsteppers captain Madison Mills were crowned 2012 Homecoming King and Queen in ceremonies prior to the game.
Sophomore QB Jordan Hoy, starting in his first game due to a concussion by Chase Schultz, led the Hawks to the dominating victory by throwing for 276 yards and six touchdowns before the packed Homecoming crowd.
He kicked off the scoring extravaganza with touchdown passes of 13, 14 and 63 yards to standout WR Shyon Motlagh for a 21-0 halftime lead.
Hoy didn’t slow down in the second half, hitting RB Rico Henderson with a two-yard TD completion, R.J. Williams with an eight-yard TD strike and Jokorean Swanson with a 23-yard touchdown dart.
Kicker Ethan Smith nailed six PATs and also added an 18-yard field goal for nine points.
Hoy finished with 24-of-37 passing for six TDs, with Motlagh pulling down four receptions for 99 yards and three TDs, Williams five for 71 yards and one touchdown, Rashad Johnson two for 33 yards, Swanson two for 29 yards and one TD and Jake Fisher six for 27 yards.
Henderson led all rushers with 83 yards on 18 carries, Williams had 55 yards on one carry, Fisher 24 yards on two carries, Brandon Young 20 yards on five carries and Hoy 15 yards on seven carries for the Hawks.
RHHS put up 476 yards total offense to Rowlett’s 198 and racked up 26 first downs to the Eagles 12.
The Hawks defense held Rowlett scoreless in the romp, led by junior LB Clay Wilkerson with 10 tackles and four assists.
